Scenario
Two young religious women become embroiled in a game of cat and mouse in a strange man’s house. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East in Heretic, as well as more modern women destroying the horror game. The end credits music is a version of « Knocking of Heaven’s Door » to the tune of « Fade into You » by Mazzy Star. A nod to the fact that Radiohead’s « Creep » is a reprise (due to the melody) of The Hollies’ « The Air That I Breathe », mentioned earlier by Grant in the film.

Two Mormon missionaries, Paxton and Barnes, are lured into the home of the polite and knowledgeable Mr. Reed. He can’t wait to talk about their beliefs and hear the good news. Too eager.
It’s thrilling to see where each topic and turn takes the characters
When the theological discussion takes a dark turn, the sisters are equally enthusiastic about leaving. If they can.Heretic is an intense, chilling and terrifyingly honest discussion of the horror of ideas. I enjoyed the deep dialogues about myths, choices and sensitive subjects like polygamy and Mormon underwear.Hugh Grant (Mr. Reed) was in attendance at this world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
They incorporated some of their life experiences
Grant seemed to relish the uncharacteristic role of « villain. » He was well cast alongside Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher, both also in attendance at the premiere, as they all seemed to act instinctively and from the heart. East and Thatcher were once Mormon themselves, and Grant could identify with certain aspects of Mr. Reed. « I found, » Grant said of his character’s religious views, « that we had a lot in common. » No wonder they were so good. Great cast.
